Whit Hanks presents a rare collection of European and Southeast Asian home furnishings and accessories. The gallery features unique French Colonial religious objects and folk art, Spanish olive oil jars, Tibetan altars, Chinese cabinets, and an array of architecturals from around the world. Hemisphere’s goal is to bring home furnishings to our customers from remote and inaccessible parts of the world to enhance home décor here in Austin and throughout our region.

Over the past twenty years, Whit Hanks has specialized in European antiques, with a special concentration in architecturals and furniture. Traveling first to Scotland, and then to England, France, Belgium, Austria, Spain, and finally to Hungary, Whit spent the early years finding bargains in ever more remote places in Europe. Now that the dollar has become so weak compared to the euro, Whit is expanding his travels to Asia, where superbly crafted antiques can still be acquired at a reasonable price. The French colonization of Southeast Asia in the 19th century influenced this region significantly. Today, many of the artifacts left over from that period are coming onto the antiques market. These elements were crafted by local artisans to European tastes, so that many of the pieces Whit is discovering are similar in design and craftsmanship to European pieces which are no longer available.
